Here we are in the first full week of June. School is out, and summer will soon be in full swing – or maybe it is already. I know it sure feels that way for us at the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is known as the front door to the community, and for good reason. We operate the Wyoming State Welcome Center in cooperation with the Wyoming Office of Tourism and Sheridan Travel & Tourism. The month of May proved to be a great month, with 9,562 people coming through our front doors. That number reflects a whopping 25% increase over May of 2011 and is, in fact, the highest visitor count in our facility for that particular month since 2007. And that means more dollars flowing into our community. We are hoping this trend continues!

The Sheridan Trolley is on the roll again and will be operating its summer route Mondays through Saturdays between the hours of 2pm and 9pm. The cost is only $2 for adults, $1 for kids over six years old, and free for youngsters under the age of six. The hour-long route is accompanied by an historical narration, thanks to the great work by Sheridan County Museum’s own Nathan Doerr. A big thank you also goes out to the many businesses that generously sponsor trolley stops and purchase advertising on the trolley each year, as well as the City and the County for their support. Come aboard and re-explore Sheridan on the Trolley this summer.

In only a few weeks, locals and visitors alike will be filling the streets for the first 2012 3rd Thursday Street Festival, scheduled from 5pm – 9pm. We look forward to great weather and another wonderful event. Come downtown and enjoy shopping in the many stores that will have extended hours that evening, or find that perfect must-have item at one of dozens of street vendor booths, or meet up with friends to enjoy some tasty eats and drinks, or kick up your heels to some crazy-good music! Just make sure you come downtown on June 21.

The Chamber of Commerce is part of the Sheridan County Economic Development Task Force (EDTF), and we are encouraging community members to get involved – and help us attract new businesses to Sheridan. We have developed a series of marketing materials to carry the central theme that Sheridan has ALL the assets a business looks for when relocating. Materials include a promotional brochure featuring current area economic and demographic information, a smaller calling card for that first point of contact, full-page advertisements, and a tabletop display for use at trade shows and conferences. We will be happy to set you up with all the information you need to help sell Sheridan – which in turn helps us all. Give us a call at 672-2485 for more information.

There are many upcoming events and activities in our community this summer, and for a complete list of local happenings, please check out the Community Calendar on our website at We hope to see you at an upcoming Chamber event, community event, or perhaps on the Trolley. May you all enjoy a fun, safe, and prosperous summer!
