Chamber Coffees: More Than Just a Cup of Coffee
This article was originally published as a “Community Perspectives” column in The Sheridan Press, April 27, 2013.
When you think of “Chamber Coffee,’ what comes to mind? A bunch of people standing around drinking coffee before they head into work? Dry pastry and warm juice? Well, these images would be completely incorrect.
If you had attended our Chamber Coffee last week, hosted by The Powder Horn, you would have been able to spend some time with State Rep. Rosie Berger, chatted with Karlyn Osthoff, Bart Osthoff or Susie Ponce from D.A. Davidson about our current financial climate, been able to say ‘hi” to Keystone Award honoree Homer “Scotty” Scott, and heard about some exciting things happening in Sheridan County School District #1 from Jeremy Smith. All while enjoying some delicious baked goodies, a hot cup of coffee, and a beautiful view.
We had several of our board members in attendance as well: Stacia Skretteberg, chair of our Workforce Development Committee, and Richard Garber, chair of our Governmental Affairs Committee, were able to share some of the things that their committees have been working on. Wendy Smith gave the group a brief update on what is happening at Sheridan College.
Our Chamber Coffees, which we host every other month, offer community members a chance to interact and network with people or businesses that they may not have otherwise. We choose a different location within the county each time. Since the coffees started, we have gone to Dayton, Ranchester, Big Horn, Story, and Clearmont. And while there is definitely coffee drinking going on, more importantly there are issues being discussed, relationships being formed and business networking with potential customers and partners.
These coffees are open to the public and free of charge. Our next Chamber Coffee will be in June – watch for the time and place and plan to attend! You just never know who you might meet.
