Community Partner Spotlight: Emeritus at Sugarland Ridge
Picture this: A warm and inviting lobby with comfortable furniture, a group of friends playing cribbage at a table, music playing, and the smell of a home cooked meal in the air. As you walk in the door you see a sign that says “Our Family is Committed to Yours” and you are greeted with a warm hello. Where would you guess you are standing? In a restaurant? In someone’s home? Well, you would be partially correct if you guessed both.
When you enter Emeritus at Sugarland Ridge Assisted Living, depending on the time of day, you will see residents enjoying each other’s company, listening to music, doing crafts, reading, or partaking in a morning exercise class. When the residents are not participating in any of the community activities, they enjoy all the comforts of their own home in their individual apartments with their own furniture but with an added benefit: the security of a 24/7 staff.
For many elderly people, daily activities such as cooking, doing laundry, or even taking their medication can be overwhelming and can affect their overall quality of life. As a licensed assisted living facility, Emeritus at Sugarland Ridge can provide help with some of these daily activities, which allows residents the freedom and time to focus on enjoying life. According to Theresa Hamilton, Executive Director, “our focus, above anything else, is on the care and quality of life for our residents.”
Aside from housekeeping, medication management, and meals, Emeritus at Sugarland Ridge provides something that is every bit as important – peace of mind. When you live alone and your family may or may not live close by, the days can become very long and for some of our elderly, very scary. Sometimes just knowing that you are not alone or that you can have someone come help you with just the push of a button is all someone needs to improve their quality of life immensely.
Emeritus at Sugarland Ridge has both assisted living apartments and independent living cottages. They also offer other services such as home visits and free blood pressure clinics. The staff and residents are also involved with community efforts such as the Fireman’s Statue fundraisers and The Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
“Emeritus at Sugarland Ridge-Care, it’s more than what they do, it’s who they are.”
