Critical Air Service
Addressing Commercial Air Service
for Sheridan and Johnson Counties
Bruce Garber, chair of the community’s Critical Air Service Team (CAST), also gave an update to Chamber luncheon attendees on efforts to improve our commercial air service.
The CAST group, made up of community leaders from both Sheridan and Johnson Counties, was formed last year to develop an organized approach to finding a solution.
Dependability. or lack thereof, has been a problem for years. The group is currently in discussions with another carrier, but has found that even that company needs a revenue guarantee.
Fortunately, state legislators showed support during the latest legislative session by allocating additional funding to the Wyoming Aeronautics Commission to provide money that rural airports can apply for to establish this guarantee. Our community’s application for some of these funds was submitted two weeks ago. Even so, state funding – if obtained – will require a sizable matching amount from the community.
