Chamber Brewing Up Funds for Business
[This article originally appeared as a “Community Perspectives” article in The Sheridan Press, September 6, 2014 – the day of the Chamber’s Brewfest event.]
I just love Sheridan and the entire county. I love walking down the street and greeting people, as well as welcoming newcomers to our great area. I love walking into a store and being welcomed with a smile. I feel like we’re all in it together…we want to be here, and we are “community.”
That certainly applies to our business community. We support each other. It’s exciting to work at the Chamber of Commerce, representing a broad range of businesses, to further commerce and economic prosperity in the Sheridan area. It’s energizing to find myself working amongst a group of such dedicated local business people. And it’s really refreshing to have a business go above and beyond to serve their customer. Exceptional customer service, flexibility, and genuine care and concern abound here. It’s extraordinary to witness the numerous examples of win-win partnerships, which are evident day in and day out.
One such example is the Chamber’s Suds N’ Spurs Brewfest, taking place TODAY in Whitney Plaza from 3-8pm.
Our lineup of professional craft brewers represent five states in our region, including New Belgium Brewing and Odell Brewing from Colorado; Grand Teton Brewing from Idaho; Canyon Creek Brewing, Carter’s Brewing, Madison River Brewing, Montana Brewing, Red Lodge Ales, and Uberbrew from Montana; Crow Peak Brewing from South Dakota; Altitude Chophouse & Brewery, Black Tooth Brewing, Gillette Brewing, Lander Brewing, Luminous Brewhouse, Prairie Fire Brewing, Snake River Brewing, Wind River Brewing, and Wyoming State Brewing from Wyoming. In addition, local distributors Big Horn Beverage and Metz Beverage will be present. Wow…this year we have more brewers and a wider reach than ever!
In addition to sampling the many microbrews, all ticket holders get to vote for their favorite brewery, with the overall winner taking home the coveted Tom Balding Spur Award. And there’s also a professionally judged competition in the Amber Ale category, with the winner also receiving a custom-made Tom Balding Spur. Attendees may purchase eats from any of the fantastic food vendors, including Best Western serving Legerski’s Sausage, DillaQue BBQ, Papa John’s, and Pico de Guyo. Entertainment throughout the event is provided by The Dirty Shame, a high energy country band from Bozeman, Montana.
We rely heavily on win-win partnerships, and the support of our business community, to execute an event of this magnitude. From sponsorships, to donated goods, to offers of help from so many businesses and volunteers, success is only possible because of the way we work side by side for a common cause…creating a fun community event that will raise dollars to put back into our business community through the various programs and committee work of the Chamber.
This year’s Brewfest is being presented by Fremont Toyota and sponsored by Big Horn Beverage, Black Tooth Brewing Company and Sheridan Travel &Tourism, along with Advanced Communications Technologies (ACT), Best Western Sheridan Center, Montana-Dakota Utilities, Zowada Plumbing & Heating, Cowboy State Bank, Perkins Family Restaurant, Powder River Energy, Powder River Heating & Air Conditioning, Wells Fargo, Emeritus at Sugarland Ridge, Kilpatrick Creations, Martin Party Rentals, Pepsi of Sheridan, Pony Grill & Bar, Tom Balding Bits & Spurs, and Vacutech, in addition to community partners Cloud Peak Energy, Decker Coal, ERA Carroll Realty, First Federal Savings Bank, First Interstate Bank, Ptolemy Data Systems, Kennon, Sheridan College, Sheridan Electronics-RadioShack, Sheridan Memorial Hospital and Foundation, and the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Our special thanks to these sponsors, as well as to Whitney Plaza Owners’ Association, The City of Sheridan, Sheridan Commercial Company, Sheridan Physical Therapy & Sheridan Orthopedics Associates, and Quick Printing.
We remain in awe of the extent to which our community is so supportive. Please join us at today’s Brewfest, as we raise our glasses to all Sheridan area supporters, and help us brew up funds for business!
