Location
Clearmont lies in the southeast portion of Sheridan County, Wyoming, just 38 miles from Sheridan, the county seat and nearest large community with full amenities and a hospital.

History
In 1890, the Pratt & Ferris Cattle Company controlled the valley where the town of Clearmont is located. By September 28, 1892, the original town of Clearmont was platted and filed with the county. The post office was established in 1892. Clearmont is said to have derived its name from the Clear Creek that flows nearby and the view of the Big Horn Mountains in the distance. In the early 1900’s, Clearmont was a major shipping point for cattle and became a terminal point in 1914.

Clearmont Today
Today Clearmont remains a small farm and ranch community. Children may attend school in Clearmont from kindergarten through 12th grade, and families may attend one of two community churches. Community amenities include city water, sewer and garbage services, as well as a library and a park. Public safety is maintained by the Sheridan County Sheriff’s department and the local volunteer fire department.

Several small businesses in Clearmont provide basic essentials and unexpected treasures. Clearmont boasts a fabric store that does a booming online business, demonstrating how an entrepreneurial mindset and technological tools can bring prosperity even in this remote location.
