Sheridan County School District #1
This district contains 932 square miles and educates over 900 students from the communities of Big Horn, Dayton, Parkman, and Ranchester. The district has an elementary school, middle school, and high school in the Big Horn area, and an elementary school, middle school, and high school in the Dayton/Parkman/Ranchester area.
Sheridan County School District #2
District #2 serves the Sheridan city area, although a rural elementary school is located in Story (K5). The district has six elementary schools (K-5), one junior high school (grades 6-8), and one high school (grades 9-12). The district has an enrollment of over 3,000 students. School District #2 offers a strong college-preparatory education as well as a vocational curriculum, setting high standards for all students.
Eleven Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered at Sheridan High School, enabling students to receive college credit and/or placement at over 2,000 colleges nationwide while receiving credit towards high school graduation. There are also services for special education, Title 1, and gifted students.
Sheridan County School District #3
This district occupies the eastern quarter of Sheridan County , covering approximately 1,200 square miles. The largest community in the district is Clearmont, situated about 40 miles from the county seat in Sheridan. The two elementary schools are located in Arvada and Clearmont, and the junior/senior high school is in Clearmont, all together serving about 100 students.
Because the district is small and relatively isolated, the school board, administration, staff, and community make an effort to provide an outstanding educational program and to see that students are afforded similar opportunities to those offered to children in larger districts.
Private Schools
Sheridan County is also home to three private and parochial schools and two alternative schools. There are also a significant number of students in receiving home school education.
Sheridan College
Located at the base of the Big Horn Mountains, Sheridan College offers the best of all worlds - challenging classes, a friendly campus including residential living, activities and clubs, and state-of-the-art technology. Founded in 1948, Sheridan College serves a tri-county area consisting of Campbell, Johnson, and Sheridan Counties. The 120-acre main campus in Sheridan is noted for its park-like setting and panoramic view of the mountains. The College also serves students through its Gillette campus and through outreach programs in Buffalo and Kaycee.
With college-wide enrollment of approximately 3,000 students per semester, Sheridan College offers associate degrees, certificates of completion, and short-term programs. From transfer degrees and technical programs to personal development and customized training, Sheridan College offers something for everyone. Students even have the option of pursuing higher degrees including Bachelor’s and Master’s through agreements with other colleges and universities.
University ProgramsThe University of Wyoming maintains a regional office on the Sheridan College campus and offers a variety of upper-level classes and Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs locally.
