Sheridan Trolley

Today’s Sheridan Trolley is a replica of the actual trolleys that ran, as Sheridan Railway Company, in the Sheridan area from 1911 to 1926. The current trolleys – there are two of them – are actually bus vehicles, but designed to look li ke the original trolley and reminiscent of the historic trolley system in our community.

Chartered Trips on the Sheridan Trolley

Privately chartered trips on the Sheridan Trolley are primarily available April through December. Winter charters (Jan – Mar) are at the discretion of the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce and operate only if conditions allow. Charters are designed specifically for the need of the occasion. The Sheridan Trolley is often used for private group tours of the area, to ensure safe trips home from events, for school reunions where out-of-town attendees want to see current-day Sheridan, for surprise transportation for birthday parties (for all ages), senior outings, and for unique Sheridan transportation for convention groups. The Sheridan Trolley is frequently used for weddings and wedding receptions, shuttling attendees to the receptions and then to their homes or hotels.

During the chartered time, both the vehicle and the driver are available to drive, wait, make a special side trip, or meet any other transportation need. The Sheridan Trolley can travel anywhere within Sheridan County with paved roads and as far south as the Buffalo area in Johnson County. Unfortunately they do not go up the mountain.

See the fact sheet below for more information on chartering the Sheridan Trolley.

Special Appearances of the Sheridan Trolley

The Sheridan Trolley is a unique presence in the Sheridan community, as both a community asset and a part of Sheridan’s historic character. It’s fun to see … and fun to ride.

The Sheridan Trolley is used for special appearances and to meet community needs. During Sheridan WYO Rodeo Week, the Sheridan Trolley is a part of the Sheridan WYO Rodeo Parade and provides complimentary shuttle transportation from a remote parking area to the fairgrounds arena on the four evenings of Rodeo performance. The Sheridan Trolley participates in the local parades of our outlying communities and provides parking shuttle service for many community events. The Sheridan Trolley is also fully decorated for Christmas and is available to charter (subject to weather conditions) for Christmas parties, Christmas light tours or other special events during the month of December.

Availability: The two Sheridan Trolley vehicles are available for chartered trips April through December, on a first come, first served basis. Winter charters (Jan – Mar) are at the discretion of the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce and operate only if conditions allow.

Capacity: Each trolley can hold a maximum of 30 passengers.

The passenger area inside the trolley is rows of wooden benches, one on each side, with each bench holding two people. Each side of the trolley has large windows allowing a broad view of the outside world, and the ability to open the windows in warm weather. The trolley is heated but is not air conditioned. Each trolley is handicap accessible and also has space to hold two or three passengers seated in anchored wheelchairs.

Drivers: The trolley drivers all hold CDL licenses, as required. Most of the trolley drivers have been driving the Sheridan Trolley for a number of years, and most are also currently employed and experienced school bus drivers. All of the drivers enjoy interacting with their passengers and embrace the opportunity to showcase our community.

Activities While Riding: All of the drivers are happy to answer questions from passengers, although they are not trained or expected to be tour guides. Those chartering a trip are welcome to designate their own person to provide information from the front of the trolley during the trip. Food and drink are allowed.

Cost: The cost for a chartered trip is $110 per hour, minimum 2 hours. (A special discounted rate of $90 per hour is available to employees of Sheridan County Chamber member businesses.) 50% of the charter booking fee is payable at the time of booking; the remaining 50% and a refundable cleaning/damage deposit are payable 30 days prior to the trip. If the actual charter results in a longer time used, the party will be expected to pay for the additional time.

Making Reservations: The Sheridan Trolley is managed by the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce. Reservations for a chartered trip are made with the Sheridan County Chamber, (307) 672-2485. Reservations, tentative or final, may be made any time before the desired date. Again, availability is on a first come, first served basis. The chartering party will be asked to sign a Trolley Charter Agreement, confirming the final specifications for the trip, and make payment.

View the Charter Information Sheet for details:

Cancelling Reservations: Charter reservations must be cancelled at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled start of the trip, by contacting the Sheridan County Chamber. Any advance payment already made will be refunded according to the schedule outlined in the charter agreement.
